Area of Research

A.   Transition metal catalyzed  reactions in organic synthesis.

Our research work primarily deals with the development of transition metal catalyzed reactions, leading to the synthesis of various hetero/carbo cyclic compounds of synthetic/biological interest. This mainly include

  1. Cu catalyzed transformation of 2-Haloanilides leading to the synthesis of 2-Benzoxazoles and/or substituted aminophenols.
  2. Pd catalyzed cyclization of Baylis-Hillman adducts toward the synthesis of Quinoline, Indanone and Indene derivatives

B.   Polymer Functionalization and Applications

My research group also focuses on the synthetic modifications of polymers and subsequent studies to evaluate the structure property relationship. A series of chemical modifications in acrylonitrile based polymers (PAN, SAN and ABS) have been carried out and these novel polymers are utilized for the preparations of various blends/composites with improved properties. A number of supported metal complexes have also been developed using the modified polymers and successfully employed as catalysts for various coupling reactions.
